- For All: Class & Group Lessons, Reminders + ScheduleIn posts·March 22, 2024We're beyond excited to welcome my students from École St-Landry for classes this Saturday morning (10-11 AM) and Monday evening (6-7 PM). Classes are held at Fun Nation (4518 West Congress St) in Lafayette, Louisiana—and no, no equipment is needed (we have rentals at the rink). We look forward to seeing you! Should you need more information about classes, please refer to this post and our Classes ProGuide. Class & Group Lessons As you may or may not know, our club specializes in roller figure skating ("Artistic") and roller speed skating ("Speed"). For learning to skate, non-athletes, adults, intermediate and advanced hobbyists, Saturday mornings and Monday evenings are probably your best bet. For those with inlines and who already know they want to do speed skating, Saturday evenings and Wednesday evenings are your best bet. Brian Clary (me) leads classes on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Our club's vice president and my fellow coach, Jenna Guidry (Speed) leads classes on Saturday evenings and Wednesday evenings. If you're a student with École St-Landry, Saturday morning and Monday evenings are your best bet for now. Learn more about sports backgrounds, coaches, and schedule for classes/group lessons below. Please note: Only athletes can attend group lessons, as they present roller sports-level content. - #MLK Day Lafayette // Session + Media HelpIn posts·January 16, 2023It looks like most of the club is heading to Lafayette (Fun Nation) for the #MLK day hours: 12-4 ($8/admission). Jensen and I will meet you at the rink around 2:30. I have to do some media-making for both the rink (FunNationLA.com) and the club site (this site) during session and we'll use our time after (4-6) for a continuation of clip making and prep for Memphis. No classes will be held; just a special private practice club skaters. I'll post the media we take today in the comments below. Feel free to share any photos/videos you may have taken in the comments below. If you share, we will likely use it on rink and club sites/social pages, so FYI if you aren't a member of the rink's site yet. Click here to join the rink's site.2837

Otherwise, we'll have folks sleeping on the couch :( 1.1 Airbnb Deadline: 10 PM on Tues, 3/14/2023 Cost depends on the availability and the number of confirmed RSVPs. Please budget a per diem of $150-200 for lodging. Please use the comments below to RSVP. Please bring this per diem total on or before this Saturday, March 18, 2023. 1.2 Transportation Deadline: Morning of departure ($60), cash only 2.0 Reminders This Meet is an official Event sanctioned and regulated by USA Roller Sports. - #Louisiane1 - Club Outfit 1 - 2023In posts·December 22, 2022BonjourHi, les ami-es ! The following contains information about our 1st club outfit, #Louisiane1 In an effort to keep this as brief as possible, please click on the arrows below to expand topics and see details for each. MEASUREMENT GUIDE (NEW) MOCK-UP 1 This is a quick mock-up I came up with for me to know what measurements Nekoe needs when I'm measuring for #Louisiane1 Féminine and Masculine (designs below). I'm sharing this here for transparency and ease of use (between all of us). Please note, the following does not include the following two measurements (S4 & S5) but MOCK-UP 2 will have these and whatever else Nekoe says she needs. The following is for women (Féminine) but I'll create another for men when I hear back from Nekoe and update this section with images for both accordingly. UPDATES FOR MOCK-UP 2 (NOT PICTURED BELOW) • S4 bicep circumference • S5 forearm circumference Designs & Details WOMEN & GIRLS // FÉMININE OVERVIEW & SKETCH We will use a black stretch velvet fabric with a skirt appropriate for figures/loops. Seamstresses: do not stone this dress; I want skaters to learn to stone their outfits. FRONT // AVANT SLEEVES: Each sleeve is long and comes to a point, where an invisible elastic cord is attached under the point to wrap around the middle finger of the skater. BODYSUIT: The shoulder seams will cover bra straps (1.5''-2'') and provide additional support. The décolletage is a wide V, ending at the skater's sternum. SKIRT: Attached to the skirt, elongating the torso with a curve downward, and a slightly shorter front than the skirt used in the back. Seamstresses: If images are needed, please use the comments below and I will reply accordingly. BACK // ARRIÈRE NECK: Boatneck, relaxed, covers bra and "droops" a little (about 8'' from hairline; SKIRT: Slightly longer than the front portion of the skirt. MEASUREMENTS (WOMEN) I will add additional skaters to the following section as we get them. Any skaters added are secondary in priority to skaters competing in Memphis. MEN & BOYS // MASCULINE OVERVIEW & SKETCH We will use a black lycra or the same black stretch velvet fabric for the bodysuit. For the pants, same black velvet. Seamstresses: do not stone the bodysuit; I want skaters to learn to stone their outfits. FRONT // AVANT SLEEVES: Each sleeve is short, with half-inch rolled once or twice (seamstresses call; measurements refer to length after the roll. BODYSUIT: The collar is 1'' in height and leaves 2'' of space at the Adam's Apple; for the V neck, it extends to the armpit line (see image), which is more or less the sternum, and gets increasingly skinnier as it comes to a point. Seamstresses: If images are needed, please use the comments below and I will reply accordingly. BACK // ARRIÈRE Nothing to note. MEASUREMENTS (MEN) I will add additional skaters to the following section as we get them. Any skaters added are secondary in priority to skaters competing in Memphis. #HeartOfMemphis2023 #Memphis2023 #FigureAssignments2465

- Skating Diagrams: Finding, Reading, Drawing, Demoing and SharingIn posts·January 8, 2023With the need for resources at its highest point, I'm thrilled to share some updates, info, and progress with an update to my original post. This post is about skating diagrams, which include dance, where you can find them, what's new about them, and what we're doing with them. In the meantime, you can always find diagrams online thanks to the insanely cool contributions of the person/admin/folk at SkateDanceDiagrams :) Think of this website as the "skate diagram" website, not just dance diagrams. SkateDanceDiagrams.Weebly.com • /turns (image) Updates for READING, DRAWING & SHARING RESOURCES School Figures is a technical term and collective home for two subdisciplines—commonly called Figures and Loops—and as such, involves tracing two different kinds of circles: the largest being Circle Figures and the smallest being Loop Figures. You should learn more about this topic in its very own online lesson: Intro to Figures. Figures First. École d'abord. Roller figure skating clubs generally start practice with a segment called Figures where we do both: Figures, then Loops, before moving on to Dance, Freestyle, and Pairs. Arrangement(s) Every rink is unique and every floor layout is too, so this is where the arrangements can vary, hence unique. Good news is, nearly everyone (but the home skaters) has to adjust to a new floor when traveling and competing. While we don't have loop circles yet, you can get an idea with the images below. Sometimes they're inside Circle Figures (image 1) and sometimes they're independent among other sets of loop circles (image 2). Skating Diagrams for READING, DRAWING SCHOOL FIGURES Let's get started with Circle Figures (Figures) before moving on to Loop Figures (Loops). source: SkateDanceDiagrams Progress Here's what we've come up with so far: See the comments below. Leave a comment below and I'll update the following resources with your contributions!1550
- Glide WaltzIn postsMarch 3, 2023There’s also thousands of organ music songs and you can find the ones you like the most! I’ve seen computer list and it’s pretty nice. I’m with Patrick, those songs are nice to listen to but for confusion factors, etc… even different organ songs can be a little confusing sometimes. GOODLUCK!15
- #Memphis2023 - Let's Plan Our TripIn Clips + StoriesDecember 22, 2022Fabric is in! I have 10 yards of stretch black velvet (90% Polyester, 10% Spandex). Lighter for athletic performance, softer for appeal. Slight shimmer as it’s placed on a charcoal base (background). I will bring it to the rink when we meet again next Tuesday, and drop off with Jewel when we hold our next practice in Bâton-Rouge (next Thursday, none today). THIS IS A CLUB OUTFIT This will be used for our “club outfit” and competitive attire in Memphis. After Memphis, you can wear your bodysuit and pants (men) or dress (women) for practice. As the weather warms, we’ll get a 2nd club outfit for warmer months made of lycra/spandex. This club outfit in question will be reserved for competitions’ official practices. USE All club members need proper practice clothes, at each regular practice, and this is the first step toward that. If you want two or more practice outfits or club outfits, let’s tackle that after Memphis. so excited 😜 for y’all!22

Get started now: https://usarollersports.sport80.com/(https://usarollersports.sport80.com/) Once you've registered with USARS, print out your membership card (example w/ mine below) and stick it in your lanyard. - #YallMeansAll: Changes for Bâton-RougeIn posts·October 13, 2023— 13 octobre 2023 — Chèr.es Membre-Athlètes, chères familles, As Head Coach of Roller Louisiane, I regret to inform you all that changes have been made to our programs and services in Bâton-Rouge. Unfortunately, I have had to make a difficult decision that effective immediately, and until further notice, I am ceasing all operations and affiliation with our facility, Skate Galaxy. Therefore, we will no longer offer our club program's services (training and testing) and class services—making yesterday, Thursday, October 12, 2023, our last practice and class in Bâton-Rouge for the foreseeable future. For us, #YallMeansAll — No Membre-Athlète of Roller Louisiane will train or test at Skate Galaxy and failure to adhere to this decision will result in immediate release from our club. In the spirit of transparency, I have also included my email to the facility's owners confirming my decision. RELEASE For anyone who foresees a problem with my decision, for any reason(s)—be it personal or logistic (travel) in nature—there will be only encouragement (no hard feelings) now and in the future. I will always strive to support you in what you feel is best for your goals. Should this apply to you, I have completed and signed my end of the Release required by USA Roller Sports and provided the partially completed Release as a PDF below and in our File Library as well under Club Documents / Releases: CLICK TO VIEW.(https://www.rollerlouisiane.com/file-library/baa5d293-9950-4816-90df-7f42b611e7bf) WHY DO WE FALL? At the core of our club, we encourage, practice, and celebrate vulnerability and perseverance on both the individual and organizational levels, at the very least in the spirit of our values—Liberté, Accessibilité, Innovation, Olympisme—and with a particular nod to Olympism. Change is inevitable. Despite adversity and the risk of setbacks, among others, we must choose, through daily practice, to embrace—never ignoring or underestimating—the lessons that vulnerability, failure, and defeat can teach us, because perseverance is a choice (#LâchePas). From the moment you started as a student, with every push you took, every fall you had, I stand beside you as does every Membre-Athlète of our club. We stand together and learn to practice courage and professionalism for ourselves, for our kids, and for our sports, because for us #LâchePas (never surrender) means more than any one post should ever attempt to define. #LâchePas les ami.es. RELEASE: EMAIL: Email to Skate Galaxy1131

Please click here to get a head start on checking in for class.(RollerLouisiane.com/calendar) The next part of this post applies only to our club's Membre-Athlètes (MAs). - #ProTips: Skates, Tools + AccessoriesIn posts·January 6, 2023In preparation for #HeartOfMemphis2023 / #Memphis2023, we started a group text thread to keep everyone in the loop. It's been great to catch up and see what's on people's minds and immediately share those questions, out in the open, which tend to slip our minds by the time we walk into the rink. OUR PRO-SHOP Starting February 1st, you'll be able to buy what you want and need in Le Dép, our very own Pro-Shop, right here on RollerLouisiane.com. Le Dép is short for le dépanneur, a name I chose as a nod to my years in Québec (QC), where term dépanneur or just dép is used for the North American "corner store." To me, Boutique du pro just seemed too general. ACCESS FOR ALL—ONLINE Whether you're a hobbyist (regular session skater) or training roller sports as a member-athlete ("MA") of our club—and any club—you will have access to the products you want and need, including equipment and accessories, merch and tools, to name a few—all powered by Roller Louisiane, Skaters-Oasis.com and multiple other vendors. In the meantime... Perhaps you want something now. Depending on the article in question, you may need or want duplicates (tights for example). This post is about sharing what else is out there.. Image 1 (RollerLouisiane.com) NEW SKATES YOUR EQUIPMENT MATTERS When you're investing in new skates, you need to have an honest conversation about how often you skate now and what you really want out of your skates. SET YOUR OWN EXPECTATIONS If the skater skates weekly or monthly, child or adult, the skater needs roller sports equipment. I've skated on every brand of roller sports equipment—everything—absolutely every boot, plate, wheel, every bearing ever made in the US. Nothing comes close to Roll-Line's quality and science. Plus, Roll-Line holds its selling value as the world's preferred maker. Rinks rarely sell it, clubs even more rarely have access to it. The equipment for the masses and the hobbyist, beginner athlete, and even "expert" skater is frankly, junk—overpriced, heavy, clunky, museum-ready junk. COMPLETE SKATE PACKAGES When you order complete skate packages (CPSs) with us, or on Skaters-Oasis.com, your skates are turn-key—meaning, they arrive assembled, mounted, and ready to go. Prêt-à-patiner In your box, you will also find a standard tool kit with wrenches for adjusting and working with your new plate, its cushions, wheels, actions, and toe-stops. The following is an example of the Concert (Complete Skate Package). SKATE BAGS First, you should know, I will have these for sale in our website's Pro-Shop starting Feb 1st (possibly sooner). It's not required for Memphis, but there are some opportunities for us to break the norm and have a uniform collection of Roller Louisiane-branded articles, such as skate bags, jackets, club outfits, and practice gear, to name a few. On the subject of skate bags, you can do any one of the following. Click the arrow to expand and see more info. TOOLS + ACCESSORIES When you order complete skate packages with us, or on Skaters-Oasis.com, your skates are turn-key—meaning, they're ready to go. In your box, you will also find a standard tool kit with wrenches for personalizing your new Roll-Line plate/frame, cushions, and toe-stops. You can find the tool kit here and browse all of Skater's Oasis accessories. PRACTICE CLOTHING The skater's first set of proper clothing is almost always the club outfit: #Louisiane1. Since practice comes before competition, please note women should buy tights (1-2 pairs) for practice. Men will need at least one pair of pants from the #Louisiane1 design.1112

- Program Update: Artistic Classes (Brian)In posts·April 28, 2024IMPORTANT UPDATE ARTISTIC SKATING CLASSES Learn-to-Skate & Figure Skating Led by Brian Clary (me) • Monday evenings • Saturday mornings Update While we originally planned on concluding Season Three mid June 2024—following our regional championships (Memorial Day weekend)—Season Three (Aug 2023-July 2024) has proved to be a rough go for us. I've had to make a decision that I never foresaw or wanted to make after three years of running our class and athletics programs. Due to several factors, including but not limited to inconsistent attendance, I've had to make the difficult decision of wrapping up the current season early and thus starting our summer vacation early. Moving Forward There are no classes or practices scheduled and none will be held on Mondays or Saturdays until you hear otherwise. I fully intend on starting both our classes and athletics programs sometime in August 2024, provided we have ample interest and commitment with respect to both programs. You can express your interest for both in the poll below. Stay tuned to this post by giving it a like and feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions you may have: • 804-615-8651 • brian@rollerlouisiane.com I hope everyone has a nice end to the school year and a wonderful summer ahead. -- Poll SPEED SKATING CLASSES The update detailed above does not affect our speed skating program. You can learn more about this program on our classes page: RollerLouisiane.com/classes and on the ProGuide for Speed Skating: RollerLouisiane.com/proguide/speed.1044

- Brackets & CountersIn posts·March 11, 2024There are four types of turns: Threes, Rockers, Brackets, and Counters. They can all be done on both feet and all edges, but the CUSP of the turn is what denotes the turn type. I'm grouping Brackets and Counters together because they start the same and the cusp goes the same direction... The exiting edge is what makes them different.102

Growth We are thrilled to announce that Jenna Guidry has agreed to join Roller Louisiane, thereby adding Speed Skating to our club's portfolio of professional and amateur roller sports. For some existing athletes, this will make competing both artistic and speed more accessible at the local, regional, national, and international level for all Louisianians. For us all, it means we are introducing new faces and new family members to the club. Roller Louisiane is honored and eagerly looking forward to our ongoing growth which has received a massive boost thanks to our partnership with Jenna, who is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, now Scott, a multi-time national champion and member of team USA for speed skating. She is also a mother to Alex, a Kindergartener in French immersion in St-Landry Parish. She brings her decades of experience and drive for competition to the table along with a remarkable energy and passion as our club's newest professional.
